Village

The heart of Santorini

DISCOVER

Why Emporio?

Emporio is the largest village of Santorini, located 12 km from the capital Fira on the foot of Mount Prophet Elias.

The village itself has a strong medieval character. Visitors explore its whitewashed alleys and make their way to the heart of the village, where a wonderful medieval castle stands proud. Entering through its main gate, they soon start delving into the narrow streets that inspired Jean-Paul Sartre to write one of his first theatre plays, Les Mouches.

Emporio is a lively modern island town, yet its secret lies well hidden in the heart of its traditional settlement. The only way to explore it is on foot, and you can take pride in the fact that very few visitors actually get to see this tucked-away gem.

What to do in Emporio?

Visitors who seek an alternative, beautiful image of Santorini opt for Emporio due to the picturesque churches, the charming houses with their courtyards, the renovated villas, the local architectural style, and the traditional restaurant’s bakeries and cafes.
